600 MHz operation of charge-domain time-compressive computational CMOS image sensor

(in English) In this work, we improved the operation speed of a charge-domain time-compressive ultra-high-speed computational CMOS image sensor from 303MHz in the previous work to 607MHz. This sensor uses multi-tap lateral electric field charge modulators (LEFM) that have four storage diodes as a subpixel, and 2x2 subpixels constitute a macropixel. This structure provides time-compressive sensing by applying 16 different coded-exposures to the 16 taps. Along with the capability of achieving high temporal resolution determined only by the intra-pixel charge transfer rate, this indirect time of flight (ToF) can realize pseudo-direct ToF range imaging, by simply adding small-area shutter memory and the controller circuit. Temporal compressive sensing is performed in the charge domain. To demonstrate the benefit of faster operation speed, ToF range imaging was conducted under the condition of multipath interference by placing a weak diffuser 0.65 m in front of an objective plane. It was confirmed that the two reflections, which were merged at 303 MHz, were separated at 607 MHz.
