Development of Interactive Conversation Device for the Deaf-Blind

This study proposes a haptics-type communication device, which is an interface for remote two-way communication with deaf-blind people, and evaluates the system of the implemented communication device in different languages, in order to develop a human interface to support the independence of deaf-blind people. This project is to develop a human interface to support the independence of the blind and deaf. The proposed communication method is based on the input/output of the Malossi type alphabet, using a haptics glove composed of a non-woven fabric with electrical contacts inside, and consists of a tactile character recognition mechanism in which character information is transmitted by tapping and the returned character information is converted into piezo vibration. It proposes an input method that reduces the complexity of character spelling and a receiving method located at the fingertips, which are rich in sensory organs. The system evaluation method for remote bidirectional communication is to verify the effectiveness of the proposal by testing the subject's own transmission of character information and its feedback recognition, as well as conversation between multiple subjects using a haptics glove for both parties. |
