Experimental Evaluation of Mixer and Circularly-Polarized Antenna Utilizing Magic-T Isolation for FMCW Radar Transceiver

(in English) In this study, we measured and evaluated a circularly-polarized transceiver (TRX) antenna and a mixer to realize a circularly-polarized FMCW radar. The proposed circularly-polarized antenna is a high-gain array antenna that can be used for transmission and reception of the FMCW radar with a single antenna. Dual circularly-polarized array antennas often require a three-dimensional structure such as an air bridge or a multilayer structure. The proposed antenna realizes a single-layer circularly-polarized antenna with a simple structure for both transmitting and receiving by effectively utilizing the isolation characteristics of the magic-T. It is confirmed that the reflection of better than −10 dB and axial ratio better than 1 dB are obtained in the simulation and measurement. Furthermore, the mixer provides 100-MHz IF signal when the frequency difference of the two input signals is 100 MHz.
