Development of Artificial Photosynthetic Photocatalysts Using Two-Dimensional Layered Materials

(in English) Artificial photosynthesis is being investigated as a technology that can solve the problems of global warming and energy resource depletion because it uses sunlight to produce solar fuel while reducing carbon dioxide emissions. However, photocatalysts used in artificial photosynthesis have a problem of rapid recombination of excited electron-hole pairs. Therefore, it is difficult to show enough photocatalytic ability.
In this study, we attempted to solve this problem by using g-C3N4/SnS2 composites. g-C3N4/SnS2 composites require a vast junction area between g-C3N4 and SnS2 for full performance. Therefore, g-C3N4 and SnS2 are exfoliated into nanosheets and then composites are prepared. First, we made nanosheets and verified its effectiveness. It was confirmed that the process of making nanosheets was achieved for both materials and that the catalytic activity was improved. Besides, we made composites.
