Conveyance of Creator's Intent Due to Differences in Image Aspect Ratios

(in English) We conducted a subjective evaluation experiment to verify whether the image aspect ratio makes a difference in the ease of conveying a creator’s intent. The evaluation images used in the experiment were created to express the same intent with 16:9 and non-16:9 aspect ratios when shooting objects with clear background elements and subject shapes. At that time, we also investigated whether content creators would choose a non-16:9 aspect ratio according to the background elements and the subject shapes. As a result, it was clarified that, depending on the combination of the intent and the subject shapes, the intent could be conveyed more correctly by expressing with a non-16:9 aspect ratio. We also confirmed that content creators select non-16:9 aspect ratios due to the combination of the intent and the background elements or the subject shapes.
