Relationship between motion parallax and cardboard effect in objects with difficult depth estimation

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been reported that the addition of a depth cue by motion parallax can reduce the cardboard effect, but experiments have been conducted on objects such as human figures for which depth can be easily assumed. In this experiment, we evaluated the effect of this method on objects for which it is difficult to assume depth. Experiments were conducted under three conditions: binocular disparity only, motion parallax + binocular disparity, and motion parallax only. In binocular disparity only condition, subjects perceived a thinner thickness than the designed thickness, whereas in motion parallax + binocular disparity and motion parallax only conditions, subjects perceived thickness closer to the designed thickness.
