Study of 12- and 21-GHz Dual-band Horn Antenna for Satellite Broadcast Receiving Antenna
Masafumi Nagasaka, Masashi Kamei (NHK)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The 12-GHz band has been using for satellite broadcasting providing HDTV and UHDTV services in Japan. The 21-GHz band has also been allocated to satellite broadcasting in Europe, Africa, and Asia Pacific including Japan. We are studying an antenna to receive satellite broadcasting using these two frequency bands, which transmitted from the same orbital position. We fabricated a 12- and 21-GHz dual-band horn antenna as the feed of a parabolic reflector antenna for consumer use. Measurement results showed that a VSWR of not more than 1.35 and an edge illumination level between –9.3 to –11.8 dB were obtained in both frequency bands, which almost meet design objectives.
