Image Size Reduction by Band Limitation of Spatial Frequency According to Coding Difficulty

(in English) An image size reduction method is proposed as a pre-processing of high compression video coding. The blocking artifact for video coding is likely to generate at a pixel position having a large spatial high-frequency power. It is more likely to generate in aliasing area for video coding of a reduced-size image. To prevent the blocking artifact for this video coding, an amount of band limitation of spatial frequency in the proposal method is controlled adaptively by spectrum power information of an original image and a quantization parameter in video coding of its reduced-size image. In addition, if iteration process is not allowed, a quantization parameter is estimated by only spectrum power information of an original image using an encoding information calculated previously by this video codec. Experiment shows the proposed method is more decreased a coding difficulty than conventional methods to prevent generating of a blocking artifact. Consideration verifies this experimental result and shows improvement method in the future works.
