Effect of attention shift with head movement on optokinetic nystagmus and pupillary response

(in English) The pupil changes not only by the luminance at the eye position but also by that at the attended location. Similarly, optokinetic nystagmus (OKN) consistent with the direction of attended motion occurs.. In this study, we investigated the effects of attention shift including head motion on OKN and pupillary response to explore whether attention can be estimated in more realistic scenes. The results showed that OKN and pupillary responses tended to occur in response to the direction of motion and brightness of the stimulus in the region to which attention was directed only. This suggests that the pupillary response and OKN can be used to estimate attentional shift.
