Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The number of patients with age-related eye diseases such as glaucoma is increasing in Japan, where the population is aging rapidly. Because patients with ocular diseases suffer from visual field defects, they are diagnosed using a visual field analyzer. However, because the diagnosis is based on the experience of the physician and the subjectivity of the patient, there is a need to develop an objective method of visual field testing, and microsaccades are attracting attention as candidates. As microsaccades can be used as biomarkers of visual attention and visual cognition, it is desirable to establish a more accurate detection method. In this study, we investigated a method to detect microsaccades using binocular coordination of the saccadic nervous system to improve the detection accuracy of microsaccades, one of the components of fixation eye movements. The proposed method was able to detect microsaccades with smaller amplitudes than the conventional method and was also able to extract intervals that contained sufficient transient responses of microsaccades. These results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.
