Assessment of brain activity in an attention control task related to iconic memory

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this study, we investigated the possibility of monitoring attentional function using an assessment method based on fNIRS to develop a neurorehabilitation for attentional function. We analyzed fNIRS signals during an identification task, which is considered a task in which the allocation of attention is clearly controlled, and a non-identification task as a control task in an attention-controlled experiment. We analyzed fNIRS signals during both tasks. The results showed that regions thought to be involved in attention, such as the frontal eye area, superior parietal lobule, and interparietal sulcus cortex, were predominant in the region where the discrimination task was dominant, consistent with previous findings. These results suggest that fNIRS can be used for attentional rehabilitation.
