[Poster Presentation] Fabrication of High Quality Adaptive Liquid Crystal Lens using LC-Polymer

(in English) In an aging society, bifocal spectacles that provide a natural field of vision are becoming increasingly important, and the realization of variable-focus lenses that allow the focal length to be freely controlled with a single lens is expected. In the past, liquid crystal lenses combining liquid crystal and Fresnel lenses have been developed, however, there a problems such as light scattering and reduced transparency due to the disordered alignment of the liquid crystal caused by the uneven structure of the Fresnel lens. In this study, we proposed a method to control the orientation of liquid crystal uniformly and suppress light scattering by fabricating Fresnel lenses using an LC-polymer and investigated its effectiveness through the fabrication of liquid crystal lenses. As a result, we clarified that by using vertically oriented LC-polymers to fabricate Fresnel lenses, it is possible to achieve uniform vertically aligned liquid crystals on the lenses and realize high-quality variable focus liquid crystal lenses.
