A method of detecting pose images to support imitation learning for climbing

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Learning using videos is effective in improving skills in sports. Since sports enthusiasts have few opportunities to receive coaching from experts, they often use imitation learning, where they learn by copying the movements of a model. Single short movements such as pitching and shooting, as well as repetitive movements such as running and swimming, can be learned by repeatedly watching videos. However, when it comes to long-term irregular movements like climbing, it is difficult to know where and how to imitate them. In this paper, we propose a method to support imitation learning by presenting the posture of maintaining balance, which is often seen immediately before moving hands and feet during climbing, as information representing the characteristics of climbing, and guiding the focus of attention in the video. We verified the effectiveness of the proposed method through experiments using videos of outdoor climbing.
