Examination of painting style classification using features based on painting technique

(in English) In this paper, we propose a method, which quantitatively assesses a painting technique, complementary color contrast, employed in impressionism art, to improve an accuracy of the painting style classification. The proposed method computes absolute difference of a hue values between adjacent superpixels to extract effective image features. Our experiment, which exploited 15,620 images included in WikiArt, demonstrated that the proposed method increased the mean and median mutual information by 56.5% or more compared with conventional LBP and HOG features. In addition, non-parametric multi-comparison Steel-Dwass test, detected significant differences between the proposed and conventional features at a significance level of 5%.
