Redirected Walking (RDW) provides the experience of walking in a virtual space using walking operations in real space. The walking operation may cause simulator sickness to a player because of the discomfort between the real walking and the first-person view in the virtual space. Assuming the application of RDW to interactive games, we need to take some measures to reduce simulator sickness. In this paper, we address the reset method which is one of the walking operations. It pointed out that the existing reset method causes strong simulator sickness for RDW’s players. We propose a reset method with virtual vertical locomotion as a measure. In our study, the player walks according to some paths designed in the virtual space, and when reset, the player uses an elevator to ascend or descend vertically in a virtual manner while gently rotating. Compared the existing with proposed methods, our experiments show the usefulness of our method in alleviating simulator sickness. |
