Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Dielectric waveguides are expected to be used in securing the communication environment for 6th generation mobile communication systems, and it has been proposed to use them not only as a transmission lines but also as an antenna. On the other hand, we have been studying the characteristics of microwave energy devices, which are microwave-applied surgical devices. This device uses a coaxial cable to transmit radio waves, which are emitted from an antenna at the end of the cable for use in tissue coagulation and hemostasis. However, many medical devices are disposed of after single use in surgery for hygienic reasons, and the disposal of devices has become a problem. If dielectric waveguides can be used as a substitute for coaxial cables in microwave energy devices, the device structure can be simplified and medical waste can be reduced. In this study, electromagnetic field analyses and experiments were performed to investigate the characteristics of microwave energy transmission using dielectric waveguides, and the possibility of their application to microwave energy devices was confirmed.
