Photo-tile mosaic generation using clustering of image representative colors

(in English) In mosaic tile generation, which is one of the art forms, tiles are often of a single color. In this paper, we propose a method of generating Photo-tile mosaics, in which Photo-tiles of various shapes are combined to create mosaic tiles with Photomosaic elements. First, the image is segmented by Voronoi diagram as in the case of mosaic tile generation. Next, clustering by the K-means method is used for generating Photo-tiles and setting the width between Photo-tiles. The Photo-tile mosaic generated by the proposed method can recognize Photo-tile images while preserving the features of the original images. If the input image is a relatively simple illustration, the edge preservation is also high.
