Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In research on the Proteus effect, in which the appearance of an avatar in virtual reality influences the user's behavior and self-expression, has been well known. Conventional research has suggested a relation between weight perception and avatar impression, but it has not been fully investigated whether the body and motion are affected when the weight illusion is caused by changes in avatar impression. In this study, we examined relations between the degree of strength impression of the avatar, the degree of weight illusion, the velocity of motion, and the change in force output by comparing the weights of dumbbells using avatars with different impressions. As a result, it was confirmed that subjects tended to lift the dumbbell more quickly and to output more force in the biceps brachii when they felt the avatar more strongly when the weight illusion caused by the impression change occurred.
