Study on Applying LDM transmission for Satellite Broadcasting System -- Preliminary Study on Transmission Capacity --

(in English) We are developing a satellite broadcasting system with layered division multiplexing (LDM) transmission for providing services flexibly in accordance with the receiving environment. LDM multiplexes multiple modulation signals with different power levels and independent transmission parameters, therefore, it enables to design the signals with different bit rates and robustness in the same channel.
In this report, we evaluated the receiving performance of an upper layer (UL) with high power and a lower layer (LL) with low power in LDM transmission for a satellite broadcasting system by computer simulation. Moreover, we study a transmission parameter in the LDM transmission to obtain a receiving performance same as a hierarchical transmission used in 4K/8K ultra-high-definition television satellite broadcasting and show that it can increase in transmission capacity of UL with high robustness.
