Space estimation for soccer match videos using automatic player tracking with machine learning

(in English) This research proposes a method to quantitatively estimate space in soccer tactical analysis based on player and ball positioning and player speed. The proposed methods defines dominance distribution, indicating team control over the field, using multivariate normal distribution around player positions. The difference between team dominance distributions is used to estimate the space. We use MMDetection, a machine learning model for multi-object tracking, to automatically track players in game footage and create field dominance distributions. Comparison with actual game footage shows successful reflection of both attacking and defensive states.
