Walking training support method for mountain climbing using foot pressure distribution

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In recent years, many mountaineers are unassociated, and this is a major factor in the increase of accidents. 35 percent of mountaineering accidents involve falls and tumbles, and these accidents are caused by insufficient walking skills. There is a need for an environment in which mountaineers can proactively learn walking skill. To support walking training, we propose a method to visualize gait characteristics based on foot pressure distribution during ground contact. The proposed method defines six gait states that allow the user to intuitively grasp the shift of the center of gravity and the ground contact of the feet, and presents the center of foot pressure in each gait state on a foot-shaped image. We confirmed that the proposed method can quantify and visualize the differences in walking behavior between expert and novice mountaineers.
