One-by-one gait-based biometric person verification is increasingly used in the forensic science domain, but one of the problems is necessity of labor-intensive on-site procedures for estimating viewing direction of camera with respect to the pedestrian position/orientation. In this paper, we propose a method that utilizes 3D CG-based reverse projection photogrammetry to estimate the viewing direction information required for that forensic gait-based verification analysis. Specifically, based on the 3D model data reconstructed by using SfM/Photogrammetry technology, first, the pedestrian-oriented 3D coordinate system is decided as the world coordinate system, and second, the camera parameters with respect to that world coordinate system, i.e. the viewing direction of the camera with respect to the pedestrian, are estimated. As a result of verification in a laboratory environment, the proposed method was found to be as accurate as the conventional method which involves elaborate on-site procedures. Although the proposed method requires more in-silico procedures than the conventional method, it has the advantage of abbreviation of a part of on-site elaborate procedure and not having to assume the flatness of the road surface. A further advantage is that it is visually easy to understand based on image reconstruction by reverse projection photogrammetry. |
