Double reflection LiDAR system for environment recognition of mobile robots

Two-dimensional LiDAR is commonly used for obstacle avoidance in mobile robots. In this study, we propose a method to extend the measurement range of a time-of-flight (ToF) two-dimensional LiDAR without increasing the number of sensors. This method involves using two mirrors to position scanning planes at different heights. In addition to a scanning plane parallel to the floor, another scanning plane is positioned diagonally to overlook the floor from above. This enables the detection of both, for example, the legs and the tabletop of a table. We present an example of using this method for external environment perception in mobile robots. |
