An Evaluation of Communication Quality and Line-of-Sight Impact on LoRa Wireless Communication Using Radio Measurement Vehicle in Sapporo Suburbs

(in English) LoRa is a modulation method for wireless communication with IoT devices, enabling long-range communication with low power consumption. In this paper, the quality of communication between commercial LoRa modules was evaluated by packet delivery ratio (PDR) and average received signal strength indicator (RSSI), aiming to confirm whether communication quality can be improved by increasing the height of the receiving antenna. We confirmed that, at a distance of 11.8 km, the PDR was greater than 0.99 for spreading factors (SFs) between 8 and 11, and that the PDR was 0.47 for an SF of 7. Additionally, we confirmed that the PDR and average RSSI could be improved by increasing the height of the receiving antenna.
