With the advancement of technology, comes a trend of the development of renewable energy harvesting methods. Besides that, new wearable devices for medical use are also being actively developed, such as smartwatches which measure the human body's well-being. Therefore, research on a self-powered wearable device is needed to sustain these devices for prolonged usage. In this research, we are developing flexible thermoelectric power generators (TEPGs) to convert thermal energy generated from our body heat into power which could sustain wearable devices and technologies. We fabricated flexible TEPGs from conductive fabrics: carbon fabric, nickel-copper fabric, and silver fabric, which we arranged in pairs of π-type modules to make the prototype to be measured for its thermoelectric properties. We then investigated and compared different connecting methods to attach the conductive fabrics to see which had the better contact resistance. Asa result, we found that copper tape was the optimal connector to use, so we fabricated another prototype using it. We measured for its thermoelectric properties and compared it to the previous prototype. As a result, the thermoelectromotive force (TEMF) and output power increased. However, the device’s resistance also increased. Currently, we are evaluating the device’s thermal contact resistance to understand its impact on the device's resistance. |
