A Proposal of Labeling-and-DUDE-based Denoising Method for Binary Image

(in English) Since the loss of information due to noise in binary images is larger than that of grayscale or color images, accurate denoising of binary images is needed. DUDE algorithm is a method for denoising binary images. DUDE algorithm performs denoising based on information about the frequency of occurrence of neighboring patterns of each pixel in the entire image. This method has the problem that its accuracy is greatly degraded when the image size is small or when the noise content is high. In this report, we propose a method for accurately denoising from binary images, regardless of image size or noise content. The proposed method first removes isolated pixels from the entire image by preprocessing with labeling. Then, the DUDE algorithm used in binary image processing is applied multiple times while changing the input information, and the results are used to remove noise that occurs at the boundaries between text and background regions. We also propose a parameter setting method suitable for the proposed method. Experiments are conducted using noise-added document image data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
