A Proposal of Luminance-and-hue Preserving Saturation Enhancement Method by Using Gamma Correction

(in English) Many saturation enhancement methods have been proposed for color images.
However, many of them have the problems that only the saturation can be adjusted independently and freely, and the luminance of the input image is not preserved.
In this report, we propose a hue and luminance preserving saturation enhancement method based on gamma correction.
In the proposed method, saturation is calculated as the ratio of the distance from the achromatic axis to the most saturated point to the distance from the achromatic axis to the input pixel value on the equi-luminance line of the input intensity value, and saturation is enhanced by applying gamma correction.
The output values are calculated so that they are rearranged with in the equi-hue triangle plane, which preserves the hue of the input image.
Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method through qualitative and quantitative evaluations.
