A Study on Transition Method from ISDB-T to ISDB-T3 on the Same Frequency

(in English) Standardization of the Advanced ISDB-T system is ongoing to provide 4K video service via terrestrial television broadcasting . ISDB-T3, which is the one system of the Advanced ISDB-T, needs a new vacant frequency to introduce new broadcasting system. On the other hand, aims to introduce new broadcasting system simultaneously on the same frequency used for current broadcasting system, LDM system (ISDB-T1.5) has been considered. LDM system can transit to next generation system (ISDB-T2) on the same frequency by gradually increasing the power ratio of new system. However, next generation system after the transition, i.e. ISDB-T2, needs to inherit transmission frame of current ISDB-T. Therefore, a method of transitioning to ISDB-T3 by asynchronous multiplexing the ISDB-T and ISDB-T3 in the time domain during the transition period is being considered. This paper summarizes the assumed transmitting/receiving system and its issues for asynchronous multiplexing method and reports the computer simulation results to evaluate transmission characteristics of extracted ISDB-T3.
