Effects of body posture on visual ego-center

The origin of visual orientation is called the visual ego-center. The relationship between body posture and visual ego-center has not been shown, because visual ego-center has been measured in an environment where the head is tightly fixed. In this study, to investigate the effects of body posture on visual ego-center, we measured visual ego-center in upright and supine postures, respectively, in a VR environment. The method used was that of Howard & Templeton (1966). The results showed that the visual ego-center was shifted forward in the supine body posture compared to the upright. This result is discussed, including the possibility that the visual ego-center may move. |
