Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In order to elucidate the relationship between the effects of aging on various characteristics of fixation eye movements and the decline in cognitive function, we analyzed fixation eye movement data obtained during Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) tasks in 100 participants aged 20 to 60 years, and the relationship between age and cognitive function was assessed. First-order differential signals were derived from the measured fixation eye movement data, and microsaccades were extracted by applying a Cell-Averaging Constant False Alarm Rate (CA-CFAR) filter as a dynamic threshold. The findings demonstrated that microsaccade latency immediately following target presentation increased with age and was correlated with a decline in task performance, suggesting that an objective evaluation of age-appropriate cognitive function is feasible based on the RSVP task. This indicates that an objective assessment of age-appropriate cognitive function can be conducted using tests employing the RSVP task.
