The spin-torque oscillator (STO) used in microwave-assisted magnetic recording (MAMR) is the most important component in a MAMR system. One of the most important requirements for the STO is stable oscillation. Micromagnetic simulations showed that an STO model without a recording head (standalone STO) can easily oscillate stably. However, when the STO is integrated into the gap of a recording head (integrated STO) it is hard to obtain stable oscillation due to magnetostatic interactions between the STO and the recording head. It has also been reported that the response speed of the head field, which corresponds to an applied field risetime in an isolated STO, affects the stability of STO oscillation. In this report, the relationship between the oscillation of an integrated STO and the response speed of the head field is investigated, considering various head structures and applied coil current wave forms. The relationship between the response speed of the field applied to an isolated STO and the STO oscillation is also discussed. Finally, we report the effect of the response speed of the field applied to the STO, as well as the effect of magnetostatic interactions between the STO and the recording head, on the oscillation stability of an integrated STO. |
