In recent years, research on Naturalistic Driving Study (NDS), which aims to measure driving behavior in daily life and understand driving behavior under natural conditions rather than experimental environments, has been actively conducted. However, while conventional NDS studies have primarily focused on vehicle information, such as acceleration and deceleration, few studies have targeted the behavior of drivers themselves as the basis of human errors which could lead to cause of traffic accidents. Therefore, in this study we use widely available dashcam for recording driving behavior in daily life, and estimate the driver's face orientation by combining a method for estimating head pose based on facial landmark extraction with a method capable of directly estimating the head rotation matrix, to extract inappropriate safety scanning behavior, which are the most common cause of traffic accidents. |
