Development of Eu-Doped TAGG Nanoparticle Scintillators

The demand for technologies that generate scintillation within biological systems for medicine and biological research is increasing. To realize photosynthesis in cyanobacteria using scintillation nanoparticles, we developed red-emitting nanoparticle scintillators and conducted a thorough analysis of their fluorescence properties. We synthesized the samples using TAGG (Tb₃AlₓGa₅₋ₓO₁₂) as the host material and Eu³⁺ as the emission center using the sol–gel method with different host compositions (x) and Eu doping concentrations. The resulting nanoparticles were elliptical with 100–200 nm in diameter. They emitted red scintillation under X-ray irradiation. Notably, the sample with x=0 demonstrated the highest photoluminescence quantum yield over 70% among all synthesized samples. |
