Voltage-driving Characteristics of Optical Switching Liquid Crystal Prisms for Waveguide-based Concentrating Photovoltaics

Built-in concentrating photovoltaics, which track sunlight by subdividing the lens and cells, use many photovoltaics, which complicate connections and increase costs. Waveguide-based concentrating photovoltaics have the problem of high cost for three-dimensional mechanical tracking. As a solution to these problems, we will introduce an optical switching liquid crystal prism and waveguide to develop light-concentrating technology. This technology significantly reduces the number of photovoltaics and enables simple tracking independent of the angle of incident light. In this study, we show the characteristics of voltage drive depending on the alignment of liquid crystal molecules in order to freely handle transmission and reflection according to the angle of incident light. |
