This study presents a novel approach to reduce mutual coupling between two closely spaced transmitting antennas. A metasurface composed of periodic rectangular patches is placed in front of the transmitting antennas to reduce the coupling. By appropriately designing the size and spacing of each rectangular patch, a low mutual coupling of -30 dB between the two antenna elements can be realized by the effect of cancelling out the direct coupling in antiphase at a 0.25λ spacing while improving the antenna gain. |
