Microwave energy devices are capable of coagulating biological tissue and are increasingly being used in laparotomy and laparoscopic surgeries. The heating region generated by these devices is distributed around the antenna, which is the microwave emitting part. Therefore, when the input power is increased to generate a wide heating region in the depth direction, the heating region on the contact surface between the device and biological tissue is also distributed widely. This result in unnecessary heating of areas other than the target site, so it is necessary to limit the spread of the heating region on the tissue surface. Therefore, we are searching for a device structure that does not allow the heating region on the tissue surface to expand even when the input power is increased. We have found for a waveguide structure that can generate a localized electric field on the surface of biological tissue through numerical calculations and experiments. |
