Evaluation of Video Transmission Latency Using Local 5G for Program Production

The authors have been investigating the application of Local 5G to program production. In this report, we measured the transmission latency and jitter of IP packets over a Local 5G system, and also connected a video codec used in conventional wireless cameras to evaluate the video transmission latency, which is important in program production. The results showed that the video transmission latency, including codec processes, was 31.6 ms for 4K video transmission using the uplink, and 39.9 ms for 2K return video transmission using the downlink. These results include a slight increase from conventional wireless camera systems, but it is possible to transmit video with sufficiently low latency. |
