Real-time Deformation of Hand-drawn Character with Web-camera

We propose an avatar control system that allows users to become their hand-drawn character by deforming the illustration in real time according to motions captured by a webcam. The drawn character illustration is scanned to generate a 2D mesh, and real-time deformation is achieved by mapping user skeletal data detected by the webcam onto the character mesh. We introduce a workflow that streamlines preprocessing by eliminating time-consuming steps like manual part segmentation, relying solely on skeletal keypoints for deformation. We also report on a public event where participants experienced the system, discussing identified challenges and their solutions. |
