Virtual twins are immersive 3D models designed to replicate real-world locations. Creating effective virtual twins requires not only objective accuracy but also alignment with users' cognitive maps. Traditional methods for capturing cognitive maps, such as sketch maps, encounter challenges such as high cognitive load and limitations inherent in 2D representations. To address these issues, this study proposes "3D Selection Map," a novel approach that simplifies cognitive map acquisition by enabling users to intuitively select buildings while navigating a virtual 3D environment. In a comparative evaluation conducted in Shibuya with six participants, the proposed method demonstrated superior performance by representing a greater number of buildings across a wider area, achieving a higher correspondence rate compared to conventional techniques. |
