In this study, we develop a new calculation method based on orthographic ray–wavefront conversion for wide field-of-view computer-generated holograms (CGHs), Since wide field-of-view CGHs with conventional orthographic ray–wavefront conversion generate artifacts at the edges of the field of view, our method temporarily adds a margin where the artefacts occur and then removes this margin in the final CGH to suppress the artifacts. Our method can calculate a CGH by the same number of wavefront propagation calculations as the number of sampling points on a hologram plane, so it realizes efficient calculation of wide field-of-view CGHs while maintaining image quality. Moreover, based on the proposed method, a CGH with a resolution of 128K × 128K pixels was computed. In an optical reconstruction experiment, we successfully demonstrate a 3D image with approximately 132 cm × 66 cm at a distance of 100 cm from the CGH plane, using a CGH of 6.5 cm square. |
