[Special Invited Talk] LOFIC Technology and its Applications -- The 2025 IISS Pioneering Achievement Award Commemorative Lecture --

(in English) Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology is an image sensor technology in which photoelectrically converted electrons that overflow beyond the FWL of the PD or FD are guided laterally and stored in a large capacitor installed within the pixel. Thanks to its ability to simultaneously achieve basic performance such as single exposure, linear response, high sensitivity, and wide dynamic range, LOFIC technology is currently widely used in a variety of fields, including smartphones, digital cameras, surveillance cameras, in-vehicle cameras, and scientific and industrial cameras. In this paper, in commemoration of receiving the 2025 IISS Pioneering Achievement Award, the application and development of LOFIC technology from its inception to the present day are discussed.
