This study investigates lightweight CNN design toward the realization of a feature-extractable CMOS image sensor. First, MobileNetV2 (originally designed for RGB color images) was decomposed into three layer-level configurations, and classification accuracy was evaluated using feature images as inputs. Next, the bit resolution of feature images was reduced to examine the resulting reduction in input data volume, and pruning and weight quantization were applied to shrink CNN model capacity. The evaluation shows that combining feature images with a lightweight CNN reduces input data volume by approximately 97% and effective model size by approximately 98%, while limiting the drop in classification accuracy to 1.18%. These results demonstrate that the proposed approach simultaneously compresses sensor outputs and lightens the CNN model, making it effective for embedded deployment. |
