SC-FDE (Single Carrier - Frequency Domain Equalization) is a wireless transmission system that eliminates inter-symbol interference caused by multipath by performing frequency-domain equalization at the receiver. A unique word (UW) is time-multiplexed at the transmitter to serve as a reference signal for this equalization. While increasing the UW's proportion within the transmission block improves the system's ability to track channel variations, it also reduces the achievable information bit rate. In this report, we propose a new transmission mode for a microwave-band FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) that employs the SC-FDE method. This mode reduces the UW occupancy rate to 11.8%, half of the conventional rate. We evaluate its performance against channel variations through computer simulations. The results reveal that a 64QAM-SC-FDE system using a convolutional code with a rate of R=1/2 has the potential to transmit 40 Mbps-class video when combined with diversity reception. |
