In regional cities, vacant lots in shopping street areas are increasingly being used for apartment construction, resulting in the expansion of mixed-use districts. Under these circumstances, little is known about how the growing population of apartment residents evaluate shopping streets and what kinds of needs they have. This study presents the results of a questionnaire survey conducted with residents of nearby apartments in the Omotecho Shopping Street area of Okayama City. The analysis revealed that many residents show interest not only in their own residences but also in the shopping street itself. In addition, this study introduces an initiative based on the survey findings, which involved creating and distributing a leaflet map of local restaurants to meet residents’ information needs. |
