Adaptive Switching of Congestion Control Algorithms in MPTCP

(in English) This study aims to improve network throughput by dynamically switching the congestion control algorithms used by Multipath TCP (MPTCP) flows in response to changing network conditions. MPTCP offers high stability and efficient bandwidth utilization and remains an active research topic. At present, MPTCP has two versions: MPTCP v0, which is maintained by the MPTCP project and is available only in customized kernels prior to Linux 5.6; and MPTCP v1, which has been merged into the mainline Linux kernel and provides native MPTCP support. To compare which MPTCP congestion control algorithms are available in each version, we conducted experiments. The results show that MPTCP v0 supports the coupled algorithms BALIA, OLIA, and wVegas, as well as the uncoupled algorithms CUBIC and Reno; by contrast, MPTCP v1 supports only the uncoupled algorithms CUBIC and BBR.
