For cable television service, wireless transmission using local 5G (non-public 5G) is expected to be an alternative to wired lines as a last one-hop to the home, especially for apartment buildings and remote community viewing households. The cable television services consisting of multi-channel broadcasting and the Internet require high broadcast reliability and sufficient communication capacity. For this reason, the use of MIMO (Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output) technology is expected for wireless transmission to meet requirements of the services. This paper provides an overview of a transmission and reception system that uses MIMO technology to realize IP broadcasting using adaptive MBS (Multicast and Broadcast Services), and introduces activities at ITU-T aimed at international standardization of adaptive MBS. |
