Effect of cognitive cue to depth perception in Modulated Reality (MoR)

This study examined the effect of cognitive cue to depth perception in MoR (modulated reality) that is a new XR (cross reality or extended reality) based on DFD (Depth-Fused 3-D). In MoR, the 3-D position or shape of real object is modulated by superimposing a virtual object on the real object. Such modulation is based on DFD, and one can expect that the maximum modulation depends on the limitation of DFD. However, previous studies suggested the modulation that exceeds the limitation of DFD. In this study, the experiment was conducted to examine the effect of cognitive cue to depth perception on the modulation that exceeds the limitation of DFD. In the experiment, the modulation in MoR was measured using the contents including cognitive cues or using the contents excluding cognitive cues. The experimental results do not support the effect of cognitive cue. |
