A Study on Image-Based Visual Inspection of Senbei (Japanese Rice Crackers)

This study aims to automate quality control (QC) in senbei manufacturing, proposing a system to inspect “baking color”, “expansion”, and “thickness”. First, applying feature extraction and machine learning to 2D images demonstrated high-accuracy classification potential for “baking color” and “expansion”. Next, for “thickness”, which is difficult to judge in 2D, we introduced a method to estimate height from the distortion of a projected striped pattern. This method uses deep learning to identify the stripe colors and references a “stripe shape database at known heights” using coordinates and color data to estimate height. Results showed that height estimation was possible near the projector, but several challenges prevented estimation at greater distances. |
