[Poster Presentation] Optical Design and Fundamental Experiments of Liquid-Crystal Controlled Lightguides for Optical Wireless Power Receivers

(in English) Optical wireless power transmission, combining lasers and receivers for cable-free power to mobile devices, is attracting attention for overcoming wiring constraints. Since high-efficiency power-generating elements are expensive, downsizing is required. Previous receiver used spherical lenses and radial lightguides for light collection. However, this receiver required physical movement of power-generating elements to match incident angles, causing efficiency loss from light leakage in gaps. This study proposes a novel structure placing liquid-crystal (LC) controlled lightguides beneath radial lightguides to guide light without moving parts. We designed LC alignments to control p-polarized light transmission and reflection based on the lightguide's refractive index. Optical experiments using low-refractive-index glass (n=1.52) at a designed incident angle of 84° confirmed voltage-induced changes in transmitted light intensity, validating the design.
