Optical Design of Collimated Backlights Using Micro LEDs

In recent years, with the expansion of the automotive display market, there has been growing expectations for higher functionality in displays. Achieving 3D curved shapes that harmonize with vehicle interior designs is a significant challenge. To realize automotive 3D curved displays, this study proposes a method for projecting LCD images onto a curved screen and designs the necessary collimated backlight. We investigated an optimal structure combining Micro LEDs and Micro Lens Arrays (MLAs) to achieve both high collimation and light utilization efficiency. The results demonstrated that the proposed structure allows for precise light control and is effective for achieving high degrees of collimation. |
